Hello. We are an automotive parts supplier.

Some of our customers have started migrating from CATIA V5 to CATIA V6 (3DEXPERIENCE CATIA). We are also thinking about making the switch to CATIA V6. But we are not sure which license or package is right for us。

Hello.

I see.
Now, let us introduce the four types of suppliers.
We hope this helps you consider which CATIA V6 solution is the best fit for each type.

Which of the four supplier types best describes your company? Your company may match one type or fit into multiple types.

[The four supplier categories] *This is an example, and actual details may vary.
- Collaboration Design – type
- Target:
- Strategic Suppliers, who are closely involved in the OEM’s business strategy and product competitiveness
- Work Environment (3DEXPERIENCE Platform):
- Provided by OEM
- Work Approach:
- Collaborative design within the OEM-provided 3DEXPERIENCE Platform environment.
- CATIA Release (Required to comply with OEM-defined Release):
- Required
- Suggested CATIA:
- The OEM-provided CATIA V6 package (On-Premise)
- Target:
- Synchronous Design – type
- Target:
- Suppliers who need to send the models with design history and parameters, allowing future edits. (As specs)
- Work Environment (3DEXPERIENCE Platform):
- Provided by Suppliers
- Work Approach:
- Design using the same system specifications as the OEM, and deliver design data accordingly.
- CATIA Release (Required to comply with OEM-defined Release):
- Required
- Suggested CATIA:
- OEM-specified CATIA V6 package or compliant licenses (on-premise)
- Target:
- Result Based Design – type
- Target:
- Supplies who send the final geometry, without history, and cannot be edited. (As Result)
- Work Environment (3DEXPERIENCE Platform):
- Provided by Suppliers
- Work Approach:
- Design based on final deliverables and required performance or quality, rather than specific design processes or methods.
- Not necessarily required to use the same system specifications as the OEM or partners.
- CATIA Release (Required to comply with OEM-defined Release):
- Not Required
- Suggested CATIA:
- Supplier required licenses (CATIA V5/V6) (On-Premise or On-Cloud)
- Target:
- Manufacturing with 2D – type
- Target:
- Manufacturing Suppliers (2D)
- Work Environment (3DEXPERIENCE Platform):
- Provided by Suppliers
- Work Approach:
- Manufacturing relies on traditional 2D drawings, with 3D data serving only as a reference.
- 3D data may be used for viewing only, or it may need to be edited for manufacturing purposes.
- CATIA Release (Required to comply with OEM-defined Release):
- Not Required
- Suggested CATIA:
- Supplier required licenses (CATIA V5/V6) (On-Premise or On-Cloud)
- Target:

If you belong to the「1.Collaboration Design – type」or「2.Synchronous Design – type」, the OEM-specified CATIA V6 or an equivalent will be required.
We recommend the on-premise type, which allows you to specify the CATIA release to be used.

If you belong to the「Result Based Design – type」or「Manufacturing with 2D – type」, CATIA V6 packages or licenses suited to your (the supplier’s) business needs will be required.
We will propose the V6 licenses (on-premise or on-cloud) based on your current use of CATIA V5 and your requirements.
For instance, if you only need to view V6 data, an on-cloud license may be a good option. Unlike on-premise licenses, no hardware for the 3DEXPERIENCE server is required, reducing initial investment.”

I see.

If the OEM or your partners are using CATIA V5, you can also investigate it using the same four categories as shown in the diagram below.

If you belong to the「1.Collaboration Design – type」or「2.Synchronous Design – type」, the OEM-specified CATIA V5 or an equivalent licenses will be required.
And if you belong to the「Result Based Design – type」or「Manufacturing with 2D – type」, you can consider not only CATIA V5 but also CATIA V6.
※CATIA V6 supports data import and export in CATIA V5 and Step format.

We will thoroughly investigate how CATIA V5 is used and how CATIA V6 will be used in the future, in collaboration with OEM / our partners.
