We’re considering 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA, but we keep hearing the term “Cloud,” and I’m a little confused.
Is it basically a cloud version of CATIA?

That’s an important point.
With 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA, the license type depends on the environment used for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
[Two Ways to Understand “Cloud” in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA]:
① Using Dassault Systèmes’ Cloud Environment (CATIA License Type: On-Cloud)
- You use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the Cloud provided by Dassault Systèmes
② Choosing and Configuring Your Own Environment (CATIA License Type: On-Premise)
- You deploy and operate the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in an environment of your choice, such as a public Cloud such as AWS, a private/local Cloud, or physical on-premise servers.

① Using Dassault Systèmes’ Cloud Environment
- You use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the Cloud provided by Dassault Systèmes.
- The 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the required infrastructure are provided as a Cloud service.
- No need to purchase or maintain your own servers.
- Start using it without setting up the infrastructure yourself.
- Dassault Systèmes manages the Cloud environment and keeps it updated.
- Use the latest CATIA capabilities and environment
- The 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the required infrastructure are provided as a Cloud service.

I see.
So, with option ①, we use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on Dassault Systèmes’ Cloud. That means we don’t need to purchase or manage our own servers.

Exactly.

Then what about option ②?

② Choosing and Configuring Your Own Environment
- You can use a variety of environments, including public Clouds such as AWS, private/local Clouds, and physical on-premise servers
- The 3DEXPERIENCE platform and infrastructure are prepared in your own environment.
- Configure the environment to meet your requirements and operational policies.
- Use the CATIA version you have deployed.
- The 3DEXPERIENCE platform and infrastructure are prepared in your own environment.

I see. So, “Cloud” doesn’t simply mean whether CATIA itself is cloud-based or not.

Exactly.
“Cloud” here refers to the environment in which the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is provided and operated.
This can be Dassault Systèmes’ Cloud or an environment you configure yourself, such as a public Cloud, private Cloud.
So, what’s important is understanding what “Cloud” actually refers to in this context.

That makes much more sense now!
I was a little confused by the term “Cloud,” but I understand the difference.

To summarize, here are the four key differences:
| ① Dassault Systèmes‘ Cloud | ② Customer-Selected Environment | |
| 1) 3DEXPERIENCE Environment (Platform) | – Dassault Systèmes’ Cloud – Included in the service | – Public Cloud / Private Cloud / On-Premise – Separate setup required |
| 2) CATIA License Type | – On-Cloud | – On-Premise |
| 3) Key Features | – Quick to get started – Less infrastructure setup and operational burden | – Flexible configuration |
| 4) CATIA Version | – Latest environment and capabilities | – Customer-selected version |
